FIVE THINGS A ROPE
WILL TEACH YOU

Below is a rope. Waves run along it. That is all you need to know to start —
and by the last shot you will understand a deep fact about our actual sky.

EVERYTHING IS SIMULATED LIVE IN YOUR BROWSER · YOU GUESS, YOU FIRE, THE ROPE DECIDES

Where is gravity in a rope? Einstein's discovery fits in one sentence: a mass changes the medium around it, so that everything passing nearby slows down — that slowing IS gravity. It is not a metaphor: radar bounced past the Sun comes back measurably late (Shapiro, 1964), light bends around stars, GPS clocks drift. This whole site explores the idea that the vacuum really is such a medium and gravity its elasticity. So read the bench below this way: the gold floor is space itself, and digging a well in it is placing a star. Every shot you fire is light crossing a gravitational field.

What you now know · your ledger

  • Waves bounce off mismatch, not off depth: a hard edge in the medium reflects, however gentle the contents.
  • Smooth is silent. The same valley, tapered, lets the wave through — only change that is abrupt compared to the wavelength scatters.
  • Every echo is a record — a copy of where the wave was. Emitted records are measurement: reflection decoheres what crosses. Noise is how the universe takes notes — the Ledger calls it the fee.
  • One configuration silences even hard walls: lock inertia to stiffness, m·c = constant — uniform impedance — one metric. The leftover whisper is the lattice's UV grain.
  • Our sky ran the experiment for 130 million years: gravity-waves and light arrived together to 10⁻¹⁵. The real vacuum is welded — perhaps because everything unwelded keeps paying until it stops.
Honestly under the hood A 700-point chain, q̈ = M⁻¹K(c)q, leapfrog, absorbing sponges at both walls with energy accounting — the same physics as n12_weld.py (Folio XVI), run live. The 25%, 0.6% and 4% you will measure are the real numbers of this little universe, not theater.
